Kempower Debuts Dual-Standard Charger Bridging Cars and Trucks

One charging dispenser that can fuel a passenger sedan and a heavy-duty truck without swapping hardware or rebuilding a site - that's the pitch behind Kempower's newly unveiled Mega Satellite Flex. The Finnish charging manufacturer showed off the unit this week at ACT Expo during its Unplug & Recharge event for customers and partners, positioning it as a practical answer to a costly problem: how to serve two very different vehicle classes without doubling infrastructure spending.

The charger supports both the Combined Charging System (CCS), the standard that still dominates electric passenger vehicles, and the newer Megawatt Charging System (MCS), designed for the far higher power demands of electric trucks and buses. On the CCS side, it delivers up to 560 kW and 700 amps; on MCS, it scales to 1.2 MW and 1,500 amps. Why One Standard Isn't Enough Yet

CCS was built for passenger EVs, and it has done that job well for over a decade. But electric trucks need power delivery on an entirely different scale to make long-haul routes viable within realistic charging windows. MCS was developed specifically for that purpose, and it's still in the early stages of real-world deployment. That leaves site operators in an awkward position: build for cars today, or build for trucks that will arrive in greater numbers over the next several years - and risk having to construct a second, separate system when they do. Utilization Is the Real Currency

Charging hardware is expensive to install and slow to pay back if it sits idle. A dispenser that only serves trucks, in a market where MCS-equipped vehicles remain relatively scarce, risks long stretches of downtime. By supporting CCS in the meantime, operators can serve passenger cars and vans - including newer 800-volt vehicles capable of faster charging speeds - while the truck side of the market matures. That flexibility is what Kempower is banking on: higher day-one utilization translates into faster return on investment, a critical variable for operators weighing where and when to build.

What Comes Next

The Mega Satellite Flex is scheduled to reach North America and Europe in July 2026, giving operators over a year to plan deployments around it. Its arrival says as much about the state of heavy-duty electrification as it does about Kempower's product line: the industry still needs equipment that hedges between an established standard and an emerging one, because the transition to megawatt charging is real but far from complete.
